NOSE CORRECTION

Nasal correction (rhinoplasty) is an operation aimed at improving the aesthetic appearance of the nose and thus not only beautifying the nose itself, but also creating a more symmetrical face and improving its proportions. Nasal surgery is performed by modifying the nasal bone and / or cartilage: the size and / or width of the nose can be adjusted, the backpack can be reduced or removed, the shape of the nostrils can be changed, the angle between the nose and the upper lip can be changed. Nose tip operations are also possible - thinning, lowering, lifting, etc.

Nasal correction is often relevant due to impaired respiratory function. One of the more common problems is distortion of the nasal septum, which has a direct negative effect on respiratory function. In this case, nasal septal surgery is required. During the operation, the axis of the septum is restored - in this way, the operation of the nasal septum significantly benefits the quality of life, as it becomes easier to breathe.

Nasal plastic surgery is also relevant after injuries, when the nose is broken and healed irregularly.

Nasal plastic surgery is performed only on persons over the age of 18, but in children this operation is possible when there are congenital deformities - the wolf's palate or the hare's lip.

What is worth knowing about nose surgery?

Before your surgery

To ensure that the nose correction and its end result meet all expectations, it is very important to work out in detail with the surgeon what shape of the nose is desired and what result is possible and realistic. In order for the nasal operation to match the desired image, a computer simulation is performed before the operation, which allows you to see what the preliminary result of the operation will look like.

You should tell your doctor before the operation if you have arterial hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, allergies, blood clotting disorders or other chronic diseases, you smoke, you are taking medicines or food supplements, slimming medicines.

We suggest you visit our preoperative memo page for more information.

The course of nasal surgery

Nasal surgery is performed under general anesthesia, the duration of the operation is about 2 hours.

Nasal surgery is performed in an open method: by making an open incision in the nasal cavity between the nostrils. After the incision, a new shape is given to the nasal bone and cartilage, and a small scar remains in the said well after the operation.

When adjusting the nostrils, the scars may remain on the outside of the nostrils.

Postoperative period

Nasal plastic surgery requires patience, peace of mind and a positive attitude, as the postoperative period is long and causes discomfort related to one of the most important functions - breathing. Therefore, it is very important to follow the surgeon's recommendations.

In the first week after nasal surgery, it may be difficult due to swelling, bruising under the eyes, so it is recommended to return to work no earlier than after 2 weeks. Extremely hot food, baths, showers should also be avoided for two weeks, as heat can increase bleeding. It is recommended to put cold compresses.

After the operation, a special splint holding the nasal bone should be worn for 10-12 days until it grows up, and sleeping with the nasal splint at night for a total of 1-1.5 months.

About 1 month you should not blow your nose and try not to sneeze. Glasses - both corrective and sunscreen - should not be worn for 3 months. Physical activity is possible no earlier than 4-6 weeks after nasal plastic surgery.

Operational risk

The risk of nasal plastic surgery is mainly related to the impairment of various respiratory functions - breathing may be difficult, and the sense of smell may change. Adverse reactions to anesthesia, eye irritation, wound infection, bleeding, scarring due to scarring may also occur. These risks are rare and are usually avoided by following the surgeon's recommendations.

The risks associated with nasal plastic surgery are increased by smoking, obesity, chronic cardiovascular disease, diabetes, endocrine system diseases, and some other chronic diseases.

Results

The first changes are visible after only a month, but the final result is visible only after the nose is completely healed - after 1-1.5 years.
