Facial fat transplantation is a procedure in which fat is extracted from the donor body (usually the abdomen, waist, thighs) and injected into the facial area by small injections: cheeks, lips, incisors, eye area, etc. The result of such an operation is smoothed wrinkles, firmer, plumper and more vibrant facial skin, a more beautiful facial contour and a more youthful appearance.

Fat transplantation is beneficial in that it solves two problems - removing excess fat in an unwanted part of the body and rejuvenating the face. Because the fat from the same patient is transplanted, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reactions, and the result is extremely natural.

The course of the operation

The operation is performed under general anesthesia, its duration is 2 hours.

The facial fat transplant procedure consists of several steps. Fat (liposuction) is first extracted from the donor body. During liposuction, body fat is taken in such a way that live cells are not injured and they successfully attach to another part of the body. The aspirated fat is specially treated and then the surgeon, using a special instrument - a cannula - injects the fat into the desired area of the face in extremely small amounts.

It is important to know that some of the body cells of transplanted fat usually do not adhere (on average, about 30-50% of the fat is absorbed), therefore hypercorrection is often performed - more fat is transplanted. For the same reason, it may sometimes be necessary for several surgeries to achieve maximum aesthetic results.

Postoperative period

Patients are discharged the next day, it is recommended to return to work after 7-10 days.

The postoperative period after fat transplantation into the face includes not only healing of the face, but also healing of the donor part of the body from which the fat was aspirated. Liposuction is usually a well-tolerated procedure, after which bruising and swelling may occur for about a week or two. Healing is also directly related to the amount of fat absorbed: the more fat is absorbed, the greater the bruising and swelling that can occur, and the longer it takes to heal.

If the face heals about a week after the operation, swelling, bruising, pain in the area of the face, as well as in those parts of the body from which the fat has been extracted, are likely to be a normal reaction of the body.

Sports activities should be avoided for about 2 months after surgery. Postoperative diets are not recommended and cardio exercises should be avoided.

Operational risk

Because the same human fat is transplanted during surgery, there is no risk of rejection or allergic reactions. The main risk is the already mentioned reduction in the volume of transplanted fat, which depends on the individual characteristics of the body. In this case, an additional small-scale operation is performed.

As with any other interventional procedure, bleeding, infection, pain, fluid retention, hypersensitivity or numbness in the face or donor area, or asymmetry may occur after this operation. All of these complications are usually avoided by following the surgeon's recommendations after surgery.

The risks associated with nasal plastic surgery are increased by smoking, obesity, chronic cardiovascular disease, diabetes, endocrine system diseases, and some other chronic diseases.

Results

The first results can be seen after a few weeks, and the final result after 3-6 months.

It is important to know that the results of fat transfer to the face are long lasting, but the firmness of the face can change as you gain or lose weight. Therefore, in order to maintain the results of the operation, it is recommended to maintain a stable weight, eat a healthy diet and exercise.
